Tech Themes

New and emerging technologies disrupt our way of living, thinking, and working. In ATV, we embrace the technological development by letting it define our field of work in a flexible, multidisciplinary organisation.

Our members decide which tech-related themes deserve extra attention. Thus, the Academy’s work is currently organised in the following areas:

The Science & Engineering project

With an ambitious five-year project, ATV highlights challenges and possibilities within the concept of Science & Engineering. The aspiration is to pave the way for creating a strong position for Denmark in competition with other strong Science & Engineering regions.

ATV will combine three points of view to provide an encompassing analysis:

  • Science & Engineering as a driver for growth and jobs – and eventually for wealth and welfare – by creating excellent conditions for tech companies in Denmark.
  • Grand challenges: How can Science & Engineering globally and in Denmark contribute to creating a sustainable society?
  • To increase attention about the potential of new and emerging technologies – with young people as an important target audience.

Digitalisation

Digitalisation is one of the most important drivers for growth and development in the business world as well as in society as such. Digitalisation generates huge amounts of data, and Big Data opens new avenues for the business world, the research communities and the public sector.

ATV believes that digitisation constitutes a huge development potential for the Danish society, and ATV intends to be an active player in the fulfilment of this potential. This requires the building of competencies, co-operation between universities, businesses and authorities, a strong digital infrastructure and a readiness to use the potential offered by this technology.

Technology for sustainability

Our society is increasingly faced with the limits of the Globe’s natural resources and the effect of human society on the climate and the strain it puts on the environment. The need for a sustainable development model has been underlined by the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is evident that the industry and the technical sciences have a central role to play in the attainment of many of these goals, e.g. in terms of developing more environmentally efficient technologies and new production modes that will allow growing global population to sustain itself within the planetary boundaries.

The Danish research sector and the private sector hold a strong international position in central areas such as energy-, water-, and biotechnologies. The Academy and the Technology for Sustainability project aim to ensure that this position of strength will co-develop alongside Denmark’s position as one of the world’s strongest sustainable science and engineering regions.

Future industrial production

Denmark’s position as an industrial country has long been under pressure from low-cost countries. However, ATV sees great potential not only for preserving but also expanding industrial production in Denmark – on the condition that industrial production becomes increasingly knowledge-based, integrates new technologies and emphasises sustainability.

The manufacturing businesses of tomorrow will be based on new technology and new forms of technological use, and ATV intends to participate in the task of sending Denmark to the forefront of technological development both in terms processes and products.

The Council for Technology and Society

The Council is a new cross-disciplinary initiative that deals with the ways in which technology interacts with society. The Council’s focus is to push an innovation agenda through concrete initiatives as well as promoting a cultural change in society in general.

Health-tech

Denmark holds a strong position in the health arena. We have world class research communities, successful big companies – both within the pharmaceutical industry and in MedTech, and new companies are on their way up. Considering the surge of new technologies related to the healthcare sector, however, it is important that Danish healthcare stakeholders collaborate in a coherent and strategic fashion to ensure Denmark’s leading position in the future. .

Among the topics that this project focuses on are how to strengthen cooperation between research institutions, businesses and the hospital, nursing, and welfare sectors, and how to utilise Danish competences and strengths in connection with e.g. the development of better AI supporter healthcare.

Science and Engineering in education

The aim of the group is to strengthen and develop natural science and technical science at all levels of the Danish educational system.

The purpose is to ensure highly qualified employees for the private and public sectors as well as furthering the common understanding of natural science and technical science as part of the general cultural background and to highlight their significance to the development of society.
